Public Information Meeting on Regional Recreation Referendum

If you missed the public meeting last night for the All Candidates Meeting, one of the issues that came up was the new CVRD Regional tax – and the referendum on that tax will be included in the October 15 regional election – so it is doubly important to get out and vote.

In a show of hands last night, the majority of the attendees (about 200) indicated they would like to hear more.

and

We did it!

There will be a public meeting for anyone in Area G at the Saltair Community Centre on Oyster School Road at 6 pm on Wednesday,  October 5th.

Staff from the CVRD will be there to make a presentation and take questions – so have those questions ready.  We look forward to seeing you!

Posters will be going up around the neighbourhood today and tomorrow – please forward or post this message and attachment to anyone in your circle, friends, neighbours, family.

Please review the attached and follow the links to the CVRD referendum info at www.planyourcowichan.ca/recfund or www.sunnysaltair.ca

The gist:

The rate of increase for Saltair/Area G is approximately $15.33 for each $100K of assessment value – so if your house if worth $800K, your taxes will go up about $123 per year.

The other figure in the calculation is the appropriation – how much the CVRD can set aside from taxes – that’s the one that is just as critical.  It is the basis for how the “per-$100K” value is calculated.  So if they start appropriating millions beyond the current cap, if it isn’t restricted to inflation increases, or some other target, that $15.33 could go up significantly.  The maximum is seriously important

Thanks for listening!

Regards,

Sue Miller, Saltair District Resident’s Association
