Chemainus Art Group Mural Mosaic Project Completed

Mural Mosaic Project 2021

Inspired by the whale mural on Galiano Island, the Chemainus Art Group decided to create our own Mural Mosaic. This method involves many artists creating individual works of art which, when assembled together, contributes to an overall single mural design.

Using the theme, “Joyful Spring in Chemainus”, 32 participating artists were each given a 12″ by 12″ square to paint in whatever style and medium they chose. Artists were required to follow instructions for creating one of 3 types of square; either a bold vibrant square with lots of reds; a light, muted contrasting square; or most difficult, a square that included sections of both light and bold, following a guideline based on the overall design.

The rest was left to serendipity and passion. The design work began in January, and by the end of March, artists submitted their completed work. As you can see, the recipe was a success! The full assemblage creates a vibrant, colourful 4’ x 8’ mural.

This project helped us work (and play) at a distance together as a small community of dedicated artists to share time, creativity and amazing talents with each other.  We all gained from contributing to this creation during this tough winter of COVID.  Now our art group wants to share our fun with the greater community!

Chemainus Art Group Mural Project

Chemainus Art Group Plans  A Spring Mural Project!

URGENT DEADLINE – January 25th
A call to all Chemainus Art Group members – please sign up to be part of something BIG! We’re excited to announce a large scale mosaic mural project representing the collective talent and creativity of all it’s members. This is a unique opportunity to create something beautiful together that will be displayed and treasured for years to come.
Theme: “A Joyful Spring in Chemainus”
Everyone will receive one 12” x 12” Masonite gessoed square, paid for by CAG.
Pickup and drop off of the squares will be in a centralized location. For those unable to do so there will be personalized delivery and pick up.
Medium of your choice i.e. acrylic, watercolours, oils etc.
A few specific simple instructions will be provided to each member but the artist can express themselves in their own individual, unique style.
Deadline for completion is March 31st.
Similar to the Kunamokst mural that CAG member Gaileen Irwin presented on in November, our finished mural of all the collected squares put together will create a surprise work of art!
The mural will be displayed at the entrance of our (potential) future upcoming show at Saltair Community Center and it will also be displayed in the hallway outside Studio 16 (Saltair Community Centre) and will be portable for other shows and purposes.
So please let us know if you’ll be participating in this amazing project, by responding to our survey in the January 17th ArtLine.

Goodbye 2020 Welcome 2021!

“Let us welcome the New Year, give the happy adieu to the old, start the new beginning with hope, and cherish the memories we hold!”

2020 certainly delivered more than the usual number of challenges, however, take time to look back over the year and celebrate the happy, grateful moments and hold them dear to your hearts.

New Year’s Eve is the day we usually reflect and look forward to new beginnings and perhaps set goals to achieve throughout the year.

Small “promises” are sometimes more achievable and help us feel transformed and successful.  The following are suggestive ideas that can aid in choosing attainable healthy changes in 2021:

  • Drink  a glass of water a day
  • Meditate for 5 minutes a day
  • Dance to a song, Sing along to a song
  • Take a 10 minute walk around your neighborhood
  • Stay in touch with friends
  • Stretch for 5 minutes a day
  • Create, Draw, Paint or build

Be patient and kind to yourself, learn to trust, breathe and stay committed.

The Saltair Community Society is looking forward to a healthy, safe and exciting 2021!

Season’s Greetings From the Saltair Community Society

Season’s Greetings!

We have had a very challenging year, and the Society Directors  wish to thank the Saltair Centre users for their continued patronage and understanding during 2020 Covid 19 restrictions.  We thank everyone of you for taking those extra precautions and for being flexible during mandated changes in the Centre.

The Christmas Holiday season will be quite different this year with many families unable to celebrate together.  Fortunately, in this age of electronics there are many  ways to visit virtually via Zoom, Facebook Video Messenger, Facetime, cell phone or the good old fashion telephone.

We would like to wish everyone a healthy, and warm cozy Christmas celebration and look forward to a flourishing  year in 2021!

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
